Posted Sunday, 28 Jun 2009, 10:22 pm ADT
The Trappers' Running Club send out condolences to the family of the late Flossie Oliver. Seen here was Aunt Flossie volunteering at the inaugural 2008 Trapline Marathon. She made traditional flummies for the recovering runners.

She was known to many in Labrador simply as Aunt Flossie and was an outspoken elder in Labrador. Flossie Oliver passed away in her sleep. The 79 year old, was a voice for the young and the old. She spoke out about seniors' rights as a member of the provincial advisory council for seniors, always eager to spend time with young people, showing them the ways of long ago. Like at the Multi-Cultural Youth gathering in Happy Valley Goose Bay. In 2006 she was recognized for her contribution and won the Happy Valley - Goose Bay Builders Award.

She was also a performer at the North West River Beach Festival and ironically quoted in Them Days 33.1 saying, "I was the last performer to get up on the stage, and I said "Oh my God, how am I going to do this?" - Flossie Oliver
