During the 2009 Destination Labrador Trapline Marathon, Inuit Metis Elder Joe Goudie told a story of a Labrador trapper who walked all the way from Labrador to central Canada to serve in the Canadian Forces. Now that was endurance! The odd part of the story was the fact he failed his medical. They told him his feet were flat and that he couldn't walk! Now that is ironic!

The trapper was so upset he punched out the enlisting officer. The story ends with the trapper eventually making it in. Today let's remember the many trappers and aboriginal people from Labrador who did serve.

Participants of the 2008 and 2009 Trapline Marathons should remember Uncle Ken Mesher and we'll have you know that he has a few medals of his own! Check out this photo! Uncle Ken also had family that served in World War I. Private Charles Mesher now rest at Beaumont Hamel.
