Trappers' Running Club Objectives
The Trappers' Running Club (TRC) has three main objectives that guide its activities:

1. To promote healthy lifestyles and running as a method for either the transition or the continued commitment.

Many of the diseases we face today are life style dependent and preventative measures are crucial. The TRC are particularly interested in the prevention of Type II diabetes, which is prevalent throughout Labrador's aboriginal communities and the prevention of heart attacks and strokes. Through our running activities we believe are are making our communities healthier and less susceptible to these medial conditions.

Cancer is a much harder disease to prevent and very important to the TRC. As a result the TRC has adopted the Terry Fox Foundation as a charity that funds quality cancer research. With 87 cents of every $1 going to cancer research, the Terry Fox Foundation is set apart, compared to 65 cents per dollar for other charities and cancer programs.

Peter Scholefield, Executive Director of the National Cancer Institute of Canada said at the time of Terry's run, "if we're interested in prevention, we have to know what it is we're preventing, if we know what causes cancer, we're better equipped to stop it."

2. To promote Labrador as a unique running destination.

Labrador is full of community spirit and a destination few runners get the pleasure of experiencing. Many people would not have suspected Labradorians like to run so much! The Destination Labrador Trapline Marathon offers runners around the globe an opportunity to experience a beautiful fall run, free from congestion and complication. At this event the runners are catered to and hopefully you'll leave as a friend of Labrador for many years to come!

3. To promote the trapline heritage of the race site.

Central Labrador is the setting for the Destination Labrador Trapline Marathon. The starting point community of North West River is rich with heritage and has a diverse mix of cultures: Innu, Inuit, Inuit Metis and Settlers. The area was once home to the historic Hudson's Bay Company. As you make your way toward Happy Valley - Goose Bay, you'll be progressing inland in the direction of what the trappers referred to as the 'Height of Land'. The web site and activities at the marathon incorporate aspects of this heritage to keep the memories alive and the tourist experience more unique.
